According to Buddhist belief, the lighting of a lotus-shaped lantern symbolizes wisdom in that they bring light to the world by lighting up the dark parts of the world that are filled with agony and illuminating the devotion to performing good deeds.
The materials:
Glue, tissue paper, small plain paper cup, scissors, ruler, ribbon, a paintbrush.
The below step by step instructions to make a lotus Lanterns out of tissue paper.
1- Cut a small incision in the bottom of the cup. Then, folded a ribbon in half, knotted the ends, and slid the folded end through the hole (this is on which the glued petals will be attracted to.
2-Cut up the tissue paper into 3.5 x 1.5 inch a piece that will resemble the petals (You can fold the tissue paper into tiny folds or leave it plain).
3-At one end of each piece twist the paper together to resemble its small tip.
4-Turn the cup upside down (that will resemble the base of the attached petals), apply glue to the part of the cup on which the tissue paper will set on.
5-Work all way down the sides of the cup filling it with the tissue petals, pull down on the sides of the paper to make the flower a little more full
