The Feast of St. Francis is coming up on October 4 each year which honors St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals (depicted being flocked by birds and petting a deer), merchants, and ecology (1181 – 1226). Francis, created a brotherhood, known as the Franciscan Order, after he experienced a spiritual shift and became poor only that he might be Christ-like in which he turned from a life of luxury to a life of simplicity.
