When and how the Egyptians celebrate Christmas and the New Year

Many people think that the Egyptians do not celebrate their favorite holiday. In ancient times, the Egyptians celebrated annually an important natural cycle …the flooding of the Nile- Wafaa El-Nil- for two weeks. The holiday which was considered as the New Year did not have a specific date, but it may start on August 15 to the end of September, when the Nile flooded. It was believed that it was symbolized to all bad things that remained in the past.

Of course, Egypt has a different weather as that in other countries, there are no Christmas trees in Egypt. But you can see some Christmas decoration on some main squares of Alexandria, Cairo, Luxor and Aswan. Whatever the local traditions, Egypt is primarily a tourist country with its excellent travel attractions and people faces are friendly which is an added charm. That is why guests are always welcome here and are ready to celebrate with them not only the New Year, but all other holidays.
